HILTI S-MS HVAC Zip Screws

Screws used for HVAC duct applications have gone largely unchanged for many years. Contractors have traditionally chosen between sharp and self-drilling screws for HVAC duct fabrication and installation.  Sharps are ideal for off-angle fastening but are only appropriate for use with light gauge metal.  Self-drilling HVAC screws are suited for heavier gauge duct materials but are prone to “walking” if not held perpendicular. Hilti’s S-MS HVAC Zip Screws combine the best features of both sharp and self-drilling HVAC screws.

S-MS HVAC Zip Screws feature HyperThread technology to facilitate off-angle fastening on even the heaviest gauge sheet metal from 18 to 28 gauge.   Self-piercing Hilti HVAC Zip Screws can be driven at angles up to 30 degrees, and a tapered point and shank offer consistent driving with almost no metal filings. Up to two layers of 18-gauge steel can be joined, and the HVAC Zip Screw’s unique head design minimizes stress from base material displacement.

Hilti Zip Screws also boost productivity and safety during HVAC duct fabrication and installation.  Off-angle fastening reduces installation time, while the reduction of metal filings and fastener “walking” increase technician safety.  Manufactured from carbon steel with zinc electroplating, Hilti Zip Screws are available in two sizes:

• #8 S-MS for 20 to 28 gauge steel 
• #10 S-MS for 18 to 26 gauge steel

Magnetic and non-magnetic nut setters are available. Non-magnetic setters feature a bearing in the sidewall to hold the ZIP Screw in place, and because they lack a magnet, they remain free and clear of metal filings.  Hilti S-MS HVAC Zip Screws can be easily installed with any of the following:
