New and Improved Firestopping Materials: Hilti CFS-BL and CFS-PL

Please note that Hilti FS 657 is being discontinued and replaced with Hilti CFS-BL Firestop Block. Designed for firestopping a variety of large openings, the new CFS-BL is a pre-formed solution that features an innovative “Grid-Tech” component and an improved formula which allows contractors to firestop larger openings due to the material’s greater annular space. Featuring a pre-compressed block design, Hilti CFS-BL requires no tools for wall or floor applications and offers fire ratings 1-4 hours post installation. This Hilti firestopping block is non-curing, making it ideal for new penetrations or re-penetrations.
In related product news, Hilti FS 658T is also being discontinued and replaced with Hilti CFS-PL, a new firestopping plug designed for small openings. CFS-PL firestop plugs are non-curing, reusable, require no tools, and offer immediate protection after installation.

Screws used for HVAC duct applications have gone largely unchanged for many years. Contractors have traditionally chosen between sharp and self-drilling screws for HVAC duct fabrication and installation. Sharps are ideal for off-angle fastening but are only appropriate for use with light gauge metal.
